Life is Precious

So I tend to be a very procrastinating type of a person... sometimes it turns out OK because I manage to get it done before it's due. Other times, I neglect it all together, and forget to do a project... such as today. I checked my syllabus and and panicked. I had to turn in 10 chapters worth of questions, about 5-10 questions for each. There was no way I was going to be able to get them all done in the 20 minutes I had left before class.
So I did the most logical thing I could think of - skip class! I know, I know... its cheating. But I did feel guilty... if only a little. In any case, this is not really the point of the story... its just the set up.

Instead of going the class like good kids, Nate and I instead took advantage of the beautiful day and went for a walk. We scampered through a lovely green meadow full of pretty little buttercups and dandelions. We found a big ol' tree and settled down against it to enjoy the sunshine and the quietness of each others company. In the business of school and work, we don't often get to spend quality time. While we didn't say much, there was no need. We just enjoyed life.

Little did I know I'd value those little moments much later in the day. After suffering through our other class of the day, I had to head off to work. The light at the off ramp finally turned green, and the two cars ahead of me went through. As I began to pass through the road, a car came flying towards me through the open lane on my left side. We both slammed on our breaks to avoid a collision which, only by God's hand, we did avoid. He stopped less than a foot from smashing into my side. If it wasn't for God's protection, the car probably would have hit right into my door and who knows what shape I'd be in... not to mention all before my birthday tomorrow! (That would probably be the worse birthday, hands down)

The point I am trying to make is life is too precious to take for granted. I know you probably hear that all the time, and it's old news, but it is so true! Sometimes it pays to take time away from this crazy life and just spend quite time with a loved one or family. Life is so short, and you never know when it's going to be your time to be with the Lord. We should make the most of every second we have here on this earth.

  1. I was in an "almost" accident today! Oncoming driver crossed the yellow line and wasn't swerving back. I had to honk at her to get her attention and get her back on the right side of the road. She was probably texting. Glad you got to see another birthday!

  2. Wow, Mel, I never knew that happened. I am so glad God protected you and you are safe!! God definitely shows His hand in our lives, including bringing horses back! I love how you emphasized the importance of appreciating daily moments... life. That is so important. Thank you for reminding me. I love you!
